Miranda Coggins, president and creative director for Mirabella, says her journey in the beauty industry began with the simple belief that makeup could be both natural and nurturing for the skin. Starting in 2005 with homemade lip balm, she embarked on a mission to redefine beauty standards. Fast forward to today, and the brand has flourished, boasting more than 160 SKUs, spanning skincare, clean makeup, and beauty tools and available in over 2,000 retailers worldwide. Fueled by a passion for inclusivity and efficacy, Coggins and her team remain dedicated to crafting products that not only work but also celebrate the diverse beauty of all individuals.

What are your favorite things to do to maintain your personal wellbeing?

I have an incredible passion and love of art, which inspires not only my business as the owner of multiple beauty brands but also comes into play to unwind. I’ve transformed a spare bedroom into a studio, which I’ve dedicated to immersing myself in the therapeutic world of flow art. The process brings incredible peace and fulfillment, with each swirl of movement and color stroke lighting me up. My geode works of art are present throughout my corporate office, infusing it with vibrant energy and a manifestation of my artistic expression. True artistry is not limited to one form. We can find art and beauty in a multitude of media.  

Is there a specific fitness activity that you love and why?

When my husband (and business partner), Layne, suggested joining a golf club, I was determined to learn how to play. While my swing could still use a little work, I am now a proud member of our women’s nine-hole league where I’ve made friends, and most importantly, I am having a lot of fun. While I love my work, a good game of golf is always the perfect escape from the office. Sand traps and golf swings are far more fun than spreadsheets and deadlines. Golf is also a great way for Layne and me to share a laugh and unplug from the hectic schedules of our daily lives, even if it’s my golf game we’re laughing at!

What is your favorite healthy beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), and do you have any insider tips for preparing it?

One of my favorite healthy beverages is a refreshing green smoothie. Packed with nutrients and antioxidants, it’s a perfect way to start the day or boost energy levels. For an extra kick, I like to add a handful of spinach or kale, a ripe banana, a splash of coconut water, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a handful of frozen berries. To enhance the flavor and nutritional value, I often include a scoop of protein powder or a spoonful of chia seeds. Blend until smooth and enjoy this delicious and nourishing beverage.

What do you think is the most exciting wellness innovation you have recently discovered?

Amid the upheaval of COVID, I stumbled upon a transformative fitness experience that redefined my relationship with working out: Supernatural. From the first immersive session, I was hooked. The combination of captivating virtual landscapes, heart-pumping music, and expertly curated workouts ignited a newfound passion within me. As the world grappled with uncertainty, Supernatural became my sanctuary, a place where I could escape, challenge myself, and emerge stronger. What began as a casual exploration soon blossomed into a dedicated commitment to my physical and mental wellbeing. Each session not only sculpted my body but also nourished my spirit, fostering a sense of resilience and empowerment. Thanks to Supernatural, I’ve embraced a lifestyle centered around movement, vitality, and self-care, propelling me towards newfound levels of health and happiness.

What is your idea of balanced healthy happiness?

Yoga has become my steadfast companion on the journey to balanced happiness. In the serene embrace of my mat, I find solace from the chaos of everyday life. Each asana serves as a gentle reminder to breathe, to be present, and to honor the harmony between mind, body, and spirit. Through the fluid motions and mindful breathing, I weave a tapestry of tranquility, releasing tension and embracing serenity. With each practice, I cultivate not only strength and flexibility but also a profound sense of inner peace. Yoga is more than just physical exercise; it’s a sacred ritual that nourishes my soul and infuses every aspect of my life with grace and gratitude. In the sacred space of my practice, I discover the delicate balance between effort and surrender, anchoring myself in the present moment and finding joy in the simple act of being.

What do you think is the most overused word or words in wellness?

“Balance” stands out as one of the most overused terms in wellness discussions. While it’s undeniably essential for overall wellbeing, its frequent appearance in wellness conversations can diminish its impact. Often, it’s used to cover a wide array of topics, from managing work-life dynamics to maintaining a healthy diet and fostering emotional stability. While aiming for balance is crucial, its overuse can oversimplify intricate matters and disregard the intricacies of attaining genuine equilibrium in different facets of life.

What is your favorite place for a healthy vacation or escape?

San Pedro, Belize, holds a special place in my heart as the ultimate sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation. Its charming small-town vibe provides the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, allowing me to unwind and decompress from work and stress. The breathtaking beaches offer a serene backdrop for peaceful moments of reflection, while the gentle sea breeze whispers soothing melodies to my soul. What truly adds to the magic of San Pedro is its unique mode of transportation—navigating the town on a golf cart brings a sense of carefree adventure and adds to the laid-back ambiance. Whether exploring hidden gems or simply cruising along the coastline, every moment spent in San Pedro is a blissful retreat from the chaos of the world, leaving me refreshed, recharged, and ready to tackle whatever lies ahead.

What is your favorite self-care routine?

I’d have to say my favorite self-care routine involves my love and art and creativity—and love for the singer Pink! One of my favorite things to do is host dress-up parties with friends where we doll ourselves up in sometimes ridiculous costumes and pulling out our most questionable dance moves, often to my favorite singer Pink. Her songs serve as mantras for me, and each truly speaks to my soul. Laughing uncontrollably and being a total goofball with friends is such a wonderful form of therapy for me, creating lasting memories and bonds while being able to shake off some stress.

What aspect of your wellbeing do you struggle with the most, or would most like to improve?

Navigating the delicate dance of work-life balance proves to be a persistent challenge, especially when intertwining professional endeavors with personal relationships. As both a spouse and business partner to my husband, the boundaries between work and home blur, often leaving me feeling overwhelmed and stretched thin. To improve this struggle, I realize the importance of setting clear boundaries and carving out designated time for both work and personal life. Establishing a structured schedule, with dedicated time for work, leisure, and quality time with loved ones, can help restore equilibrium and foster a healthier balance. Effective communication with my husband, outlining expectations and needs from both a professional and personal standpoint, is paramount. Embracing mindfulness practices, such as Supernatural or yoga, can also provide solace amid the chaos, enabling me to navigate the complexities of work-life harmony with greater ease and grace.

How do you celebrate small victories?

Celebrating small victories is crucial for maintaining momentum, boosting morale, and fostering a positive mindset. While it’s easy to focus solely on major milestones, acknowledging and celebrating the smaller achievements along the way is equally important. These incremental successes serve as stepping stones towards larger goals, signifying progress and reinforcing confidence in one’s abilities. By taking the time to celebrate these moments, you not only recognize your hard work and dedication but also cultivate a sense of accomplishment and motivation to continue striving for excellence. Celebration can take many forms, from simple gestures of self-recognition to sharing the joy with others. Whether it’s treating yourself to a small reward, expressing gratitude for the support of loved ones, or simply pausing to reflect on the journey traveled, celebrating small victories reinforces a positive mindset and fuels continued progress towards success.

What brings you joy?

As an entrepreneur, there are so many emotions we cycle through on a daily basis! Fortunately, I’ve been lucky to identify what brings me joy and triumph, and I ensure I incorporate that into my daily life. For me, it’s making sure I carve out time for family, friends, and the support of team members—having a core group of people who I can rely on, and I know have my back, brings me so much joy.

I try to find joy in every aspect of my life, from golf to business. I treat setbacks not as failures, but as learning opportunities to grow even further both personally and professionally. And our successes (of which we’ve had many!) are always celebrated. I welcome all aspects of life—the highs, the lows, the wins, the setbacks—as these ultimately enrich my experiences and have shaped me into who I am today.
