Andrea Márquez-Lomas, M.D., is a general physician who specializes in regenerative medicine, with experience in clinical care, biomedical research, and academia. Driven by a desire to understand the human body beyond symptoms, she has spent her career identifying the root causes of disease. Her early interest in prevention, combined with personal experiences around misdiagnosis and avoidable conditions, has shaped her approach toward a more comprehensive and proactive model of care.

Márquez-Lomas completed her medical degree at Universidad Anáhuac Mayab in Mérida, Mexico, and later joined a research group in microbiology and molecular biology at the University of Pittsburgh, where she further developed her scientific foundation. This experience led her to serve as medical director at the Cellular Hope Institute. It was her path into regenerative medicine that marked a defining moment in her career, allowing her to focus on restoring the body’s balance through approaches that address the origin of pathologies in a deep and sustainable way.

At SHA Mexico, she heads up regenerative medicine, working within an integrative model that combines advanced science and technology with therapies designed to support long-term health and wellbeing. Her work focuses on helping patients better understand their conditions and take a proactive role in their health through regenerative approaches.

“At SHA, the patient is not a diagnosis, but a whole human being,” says Márquez-Lomas. “This allows me to apply everything I have learned in regenerative medicine within a more human and effective model.” Here, she shares how she applies what she has learned in her everyday life.

What does wellness mean to you?

For me, wellness means balance between our body and our emotions. It’s not just the absence of any type of illness, but being optimized every step of the way, having low inflammation, better energy, mental clarity, and your body functioning to the most optimal level.

What are your favorite things to do to maintain your personal wellbeing?

I like to do pressotherapy every day. I have lipedema, so I need to keep my legs as light as I can. Two times a week I do radiofrequency and red-light therapy on my legs and face to improve blood flow and stimulate collagen. I also have a session every week with my psychologist to stay connected with my emotions and process what I feel.

Is there a specific fitness activity that you love and why?

I love Pilates, because it helps me with my core strength and my flexibility. I also do weight training to maintain my muscle mass, which is one of the key markers of longevity.

What is your favorite healthy food, and do you have a favorite way of preparing it?

My favorite food is salpicon de pollo o lentejas. It is very simple: you have some plain cooked lentils or chicken, then add tomatoes, lettuce, cooked potato, and cooked carrots. Then prepare a vinaigrette with white vinegar, olive oil, oregano, and mustard and add it into the mixture. You let it sit so the flavors combine, and then you add avocado on top. It’s the best healthy and complete meal.

What is your favorite healthy beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), and do you have any insider tips for preparing it?

My favorite drinks are lavender tea or mineral water with lime. They are very simple options, but they really help me to stay calm and ease my digestion.

What is your greatest wellness achievement?

Being able to stay consistent with my sleep schedule. Improving my circadian rhythm has been very impactful to my energy, mood, and mental clarity.

What person in wellness do you most admire and why?

I would say Shinya Yamanaka, Ph.D. He is not exactly in wellness, but I admire his work in research and development on cellular biology. He recently received a Nobel Prize for discovering iPSCs, which is the future of regenerative medicine. The ability to induce cells to become different types of tissue opens the door to deeper cellular regeneration.

What is the best piece of wellness advice you have ever received and from whom?

From one of my colleagues: always take your vitamin D. Even if you live near the beach or in a sunny place, unless you sunbathe after 5:30am and before 6:00pm, supplementation is essential. I recommend preferably liposomal and sublingual option.

What do you think is the most exciting wellness innovation you have recently discovered?

The nebulization of exosomes is one of my favorite ones. It’s the ability to go to the SNC, a region in the brain, and reduce inflammation and promote neuroplasticity in a non-invasive way I find very promising.

What is your idea of balanced healthy happiness?

Having a good connection between your mind and body and being able to step away from work when needed. Knowing when to take breaks and give yourself space is key to maintaining balance. It helps with being present without feeling overwhelmed.

What do you think is the most overused word or words in wellness?

Anti-aging, because it is not possible to stop aging, that would be unnatural. The best is to age with grace and functionality.

Do you have a secret health or wellness tip you would like to share?

Try to always reduce your inflammation or do anti-inflammatory practices, I always tell my patients about the concept of infla-ageing. Adding some practices during your daily routine like finishing your shower with cold water, taking omega 3 supplementation, avoiding gluten-derived foods, having a regulated sleep schedule, and always trying to maintain your life and work balance.

What is your favorite place for a healthy vacation or escape?

Is there a particular wellness company or brand that truly impresses you with their efforts and why?

Sha, because it has a great integrative method that combines advanced medical diagnosis with holistic therapies, creating a personalized approach so you can achieve your optimal self.

What is your favorite self-care routine?

In my routine, I focus mainly on trying to reduce systemic inflammation with small, daily habits, like maintaining a good sleep schedule, taking omega 3, and using pressotherapy and red-light therapy.

What is your go-to for de-stressing?

I like to do some type of vagal reset breathing. Inhale through your nose for seven seconds, then on the count of eight take a deeper inhale, and then exhale. Repeat that three times in a row, and you can feel the stress leaving your body. I use it before conferences or interviews.

What aspect of your wellbeing do you struggle with the most, or would most like to improve?

Taking my vitamins on time. I always forget to have the one during the day because of work.

What wellness-related books or authors do you recommend, and why?

I recommend You Are the Placebo: Making Your Mind Matter  by Joe Dispenza. I love it, because it explains how the mind can change the outcome of your health in a very practical way. Knowing how your beliefs, the stress that you feel, and your emotions can impact you physiologically is a life changer, which is also something that we see reflected in clinical practice.

How do you celebrate small victories?

I like to take a little step back and acknowledge them. Taking a pause, enjoying the moment, and appreciating the things that got me there.

What brings you joy?

Helping my patients to be their optimized selves and feeling that what I do and where I work are aligned with my core values.
