Wellness optimization feels ubiquitous these day. From Oura Rings to Apple Watches, it seems that everyone is obsessed with turning their wellbeing into data. According to the Business of Apps, the health app industry generated $3.5 billion in 2025 alone, a 23.5 percent jump from 2024.

Measuring things like emotional wellbeing, human connection, work-life balance, and overall satisfaction in daily life isn’t so cut and dry. Typically, it has fallen more into the, “I know when I feel it” category. Wanting to dive a bit deeper, Miraval Resorts & Spas set out to measure those hard-to-quantify feelings with Humin, an independent global nonprofit at the forefront of wellbeing science.

Together, these two industry leaders published a study revealing the return on investment (ROI) guests receive following a stay at Miraval, measuring how the experience impacts stress, mindfulness, and connection in the moment and over time. The survey included impressions from 176 guests before, 14 days after, and two months following their experience at the popular destination spa.

Here are some of the key findings:

  • 62 percent of study participants reported decreased perceived stress levels even 60 days post-departure.
  • More than 70 percent reported make new friends or having a meaningful shared experience with others
  • 95 percent of guests in the research reported a strong sense of belonging within the Miraval community post-stay.
  • Guests reported sustained gains in mindfulness, awareness, connection, and self-efficacy.

Study findings are based on an independent, longitudinal research study conducted by Humin using its Healthy Minds Scientific Framework focused on awareness, connection, insight, and purpose and standardized measures, including the NIH-recognized Perceived Stress Scale. Further, results are based qualitative interviews and multi-timepoint surveys. A total of 266 guests completed pre-stay assessments, with 176 of those guests participating in two-week and 60-day follow-ups.
