Dr. Henry is a Southern California native who earned both her Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Medicine degrees from the University of Southern California. She also earned her Masters in Business Administration from the University of California, Irvine. Practicing as a board-certified family physician with emphasis in geriatric medicine, she has also received extensive training in the areas of preventative medicine, bariatrics (non-surgical weight loss), and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. In addition to being a family physician, Dr. Henry has also written the best-selling book The Unlimited You Detox: The Complete Guide to Detoxing Your Mental, Environmental & Physical Health and produces the Rock It With Dr. Tamika podcast.
“As a wife, mom, and physician, I can relate to the multitude of stressors that can hit a person on a daily basis,” says Dr. Henry. “I understand that my patients are searching for more hours in a day to accomplish everything that is set before them. Functional medicine helped me to learn that the best way to be happy and healthy is to stop being reactive to life and start being proactive.”
Dr. Henry’s journey to become a doctor began at an early age. Frequently admitted to the hospital due to juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, she found herself longing to become a doctor to help others the way her doctors had helped her. She also wanted to help her family, which suffered from a variety of diseases, including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart failure, cancer, and more. Her desire to practice functional medicine came later after she began practicing reactive medicine.
“Functional medicine is really root cause medicine,” says Dr. Henry. “This approach takes into consideration the whole picture including such things as diet, exercise, environment, genetics, stress, sleep, medications, spiritual impact, toxins, and mold. This lifestyle approach was what my patients needed; knowing this could make an impact on my patients and family’s lives as we looked at the entire picture. Everything discovered about functional medicine motivated me to learn even more, especially realizing how all these pieces in my own life were intertwined.”
Dr. Henry’s mission is to prevent health issues from occurring and create a practice where reactive medicine isn’t necessary by using functional medicine to determine what stressors and other sources are causing illness in her patients. She seeks to create an environment that enables her to connect with her patients, encouraging them to embrace life and set forth on a path that embraces personal wellbeing, inner and outer beauty, and a healthier lifestyle.
