Since 2012, Anupam Banerjee has worked his way up the ranks at Six Senses. He currently serves as director of wellness for Six Senses Kanuhura in the Maldives, where high-touch treatments and biohacking tools come together. Prior to that, he served in a series of roles at Six Senses Laamu, Six Senses Zighy Bay (Oman), and Six Senses Spa Mumbai (India), Six Senses Sri Lanka, and Six Senses Kuwait. He also worked as a spa reception coordinator and reiki therapist at Ananda in the Himalayas (India). With a diploma in Spa Management from Raison d’Etre Spa Management, Banerjee has long recognized the importance of continuing education. Throughout his career, he has furthered his education with a variety of spa- and business-related courses, including at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, eCornell, Chiva Som International Academy, and more. Here, he shares some of his favorite activities for staying well.

What does wellness mean to you?

Wellness is about taking the time to discover your unique needs and understanding what truly works for you. It involves harmonizing all dimensions—physical, mental, emotional, and occupational—to create a healthy balance within, which then radiates outward.

What are your favorite things to do to maintain your personal wellbeing?

I love writing poetry, gardening, reading, family time, yoga-meditation, and going to the gym.

Is there a specific fitness activity that you love and why?

I enjoy forest bathing during walks or hikes in nature for its therapeutic benefits. Immersing myself in the serenity of the forest not only reduces stress and boosts my immune system, but it also fills me with energy and vitality. The sense of adventure that comes with exploring nature adds to the experience, making it a holistic journey for both body and mind

What is the best piece of wellness advice you have ever received and from whom?

My yoga teacher once said, “Trust your own intuition when it comes to wellness and always see this journey as a long-term practice for a lifetime rather than short-term trends.”

What do you think is the most exciting wellness innovation you have recently discovered?

Ice baths, or cold-water immersion, which offer several benefits including reduced muscle soreness, decreased inflammation, improved recovery time, reduced perception of pain, and enhanced circulation.

What is your idea of balanced healthy happiness?

Live simply, keep your heart happy, and free your mind from worry.

Do you have a secret health or wellness tip you would like to share?

At the end of the day, sit back, relax, and close your eyes. Focus on the gentle flow of your breath, in and out, allowing your mind to unwind. Take a moment to thank the universe for all the beautiful moments you’ve experienced. As you do this, you’ll find yourself drifting into deeper sleep and waking up feeling happier.

What is your go-to for de-stressing?

Lying down for 20 minutes in shavasana, which promotes deep relaxation, recovery, and balancing of energies.
