What is the best piece of wellness advice you have ever received and from whom?
The best piece of wellness advice I have ever been given was from my trainer and business partner Eduardo Penteado, who told me to always listen to my body and act accordingly. It is important to be able to distinguish between lacking motivation and your body truly needing to reset.
What is your idea of balanced healthy happiness?
A combination of having a clear mind and feeling good in your body. We are all consistently working on ourselves to achieve as many balanced days as possible.
What do you think is the most overused word or words in wellness?
The most overused word in wellness is diet, which can have a negative connotation to some people. Part of wellness is about educating oneself on nutrition and learning the tools on how to properly fuel the body.
Do you have a secret health or wellness tip you would like to share?
My tip is to never stop moving no matter what you are doing. Even if you are just at home on the phone, make sure to not stay still for too long and walk around.
What wellness-related books or authors do you recommend, and why?
I highly recommend The Voice of Knowledge: A Practical Guide to Inner Peace by Don Miguel Ruiz and Janet Mills. The book helped me understand myself better and why I view certain things and life events in a specific way. It provides tools to try and change your perspective to have a more positive outlook on life.
Is there a specific fitness activity that you love and why?
I personally enjoy going on hikes, because it gives me a chance to disconnect from the rest of the world, clear my mind, and appreciate nature while moving my body.
What is your favorite healthy beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), and do you have any insider tips for preparing it?
My go-to is always pouring coconut water into a coconut and adding ice. It’s healthy, delicious, and refreshing.
What is your favorite place for a healthy vacation or escape?
I created ZihFit in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, to be one of the leading health and wellness escapes in the world. We offer retreats that combine body, mind, and soul, for a holistic experience in a breathtaking setting.
What is your greatest wellness achievement?
My greatest achievement was losing 45 pounds when I started my wellness journey around my 60th birthday. My transformation is what led me to creating ZihFit and helping other people live life to their fullest potential.
