A self-proclaimed “tricky skin girl,” Meghan MacGregor created Cosmette Skincare from necessity after struggling to find clean products that not only addressed her skin concerns but were also safe for her highly sensitive skin. She began taking formulation courses and later developed products in her cottage by the sea with one goal in mind: to craft clean, botanical-based skincare that cares for sensitive skin, feels luxurious to use, and, most importantly, is high performing, addressing the skin’s needs as it ages. The end result was Cosmette Skincare, an alchemy of nature and science that supports even the most sensitive skin. Here, she shares the role skincare plays in her own wellbeing journey.

What does wellness mean to you?

Wellness is a profoundly unique experience to each individual. For me, wellness means a feeling of inner and outer support where things feel balanced and with a sense of ease.

What are your favorite things to do to maintain your personal wellbeing?

Always spend time in nature, eat energizing foods that work for my body—including lots of kale, quinoa, and avocados—incorporating movement, and enjoying quiet skincare time as my daily meditation.

Is there a specific fitness activity that you love and why?

Yoga has been a part of my life since I was 17. The practice has evolved over the years and ebbed and flowed, but it has remained a steady movement practice. Linking breath to movement has been a key element in managing anxiety and chronic pain issues that I have experienced.

What is your greatest wellness achievement?

Starting my own line of clean skincare that truly supports the skin without irritation. Seeing the brand out in the world and connecting with customers has been a dream come true.

What person in wellness do you most admire and why?

I am always inspired by reading folklore stories of how women nurtured their skin and bodies throughout history.

What is the best piece of wellness advice you have ever received and from whom?

“Take to bed” from my lovely partner Tara. To me, this is permission to rest and listen to your body. I think, in the wellness space and especially as women, there is a pressure to maximize and overachieve. What if we simply gave ourselves guilt-free permission to rest?

What do you think is the most exciting wellness innovation you have recently discovered?

Well, I do love a high-tech tool and recently tried a red light/laser bed. It is supposed to help with chronic inflammation, pain, and skin health. I also bought a soft facial brush for lymph drainage, and I love it. It provides the perfect pressure to support lymph movement. Often tools are too hard and prevent the flow of lymph properly.

What do you think is the most overused word or words in wellness?

Ritual, self-care, and glow

Do you have a secret health or wellness tip you would like to share?

Dry brushing, adding a tiny bit of Celtic salt in water to promote absorption, and using an app called Brainwaves, which uses binaural beats to help synchronize brain activity with calming frequencies like delta, beta, or gamma. It is amazing.

What is your favorite place for a healthy vacation or escape?

Parrot Cay in Turks and Caicos. It’s heaven.

What is your favorite self-care routine?

My dream day would be a walk through a quiet forest, a wood-fired sauna, a delicious and simple food, and a perfect night’s sleep.

What is your go-to for de-stressing?

I use my skincare as a daily meditation. I do some type of self-massage to my face and neck with our Rose Renewal Oil using our gua sha sculpting tool, or I use my hands to work the oil into my skin every evening, and it helps ground me.

What aspect of your wellbeing do you struggle with the most, or would most like to improve?

Sleep

What brings you joy?

I love to bring a sense of whimsy to my life whenever I can. Dressing up to tend the garden, thrifting fancy teacups, collecting beach glass and heart-shaped rocks are all little ways I try to infuse creativity and joy into my days. I call these tiny pockets of pleasure.
