A wellness-focused leader with a deep passion for creating meaningful guest experiences that nurture both body and mind, Thalia Carbajal, spa manager at Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa (Mexico), has spent more than a decade dedicated to spa operations, holistic practices, and conscious leadership. She brings a thoughtful and intuitive approach to wellbeing at Relax Spa, the two-story sanctuary at Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa.
Her journey into wellness began with a personal commitment to living with presence and balance. Over the years, that commitment evolved into a philosophy she now shares with her team and guests: wellbeing is the intentional alignment of energy, purpose, and daily practice.
At Relax Spa, Carbajal oversees a collection of experiences designed to restore, inspire, and connect. The spa features a full hydrotherapy circuit, an oceanfront sauna, and serene relaxation areas with panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, elements she believes are essential to helping guests slow down and reconnect with themselves. Under her leadership, the spa has refined its offerings to include immersive treatments, mindful rituals, and tailored therapies delivered in nine dedicated massage cabins. Her vision is to create an environment where guests feel understood from the moment they arrive—through attentive service, sensory experiences, and moments of quiet reflection that extend far beyond the treatment itself.
With a warm and grounded energy, Carbajal inspires her team through example. She believes that true wellness begins with caring for oneself with the same compassion offered to others. Her greatest joy comes from witnessing transformation—seeing guests emerge lighter, calmer, and more connected, or watching her team grow into confident, heart-centered professionals. To her, wellness is not a trend or a service but a lifelong practice of presence, curiosity, and care. Her guiding thought is simple: “Wellness begins when we choose to care—for ourselves, for others, and for the world around us.” Here she shares how she maintains her own wellbeing:
What does wellness mean to you?
Wellness is the intentional balance of body, mind, and spirit. It’s all about staying present, honoring how you feel, and choosing habits that support your best self. At the spa, my mission is to create spaces where people feel cared for, understood, and renewed, in every way.
What are your favorite things to do to maintain your personal wellbeing?
I prioritize movement, mindful eating, and quiet moments at the beginning and end of my day. Spending time with my dogs, connecting with nature, and sharing energy with my team keep me grounded and grateful.
Is there a specific fitness activity that you love and why?
I love strength training. It helps me build physical capability while shaping discipline, resilience, and confidence, all qualities that directly strengthen my leadership.
What is your favorite healthy food, and do you have a favorite way of preparing it?
I love creating homemade poke bowls. My favorite version includes salmon, quinoa, avocado, and sesame. It’s colorful, nourishing, and gives me steady energy throughout the day.
What is your favorite healthy beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), and do you have any insider tips for preparing it?
My favorite non-alcoholic option is water infused with lemon, cucumber, and mint. It’s refreshing, cleansing, and great for mental clarity. When I want a small indulgence, I enjoy a single glass of red wine to unwind and reset.
What person in wellness do you most admire and why?
Deepak Chopra. His ability to bridge science, spirituality, and purpose has expanded how many people understand wellbeing.
What is the best piece of wellness advice you have ever received and from whom?
“Taking care of yourself is not selfish—it’s a responsibility.” A leadership mentor told me this, and it changed the way I approach balance and life overall.
What is your idea of balanced healthy happiness?
Living with purpose, surrounded by people who uplift you, and in an environment where wellbeing is a natural part of daily life.
Do you have a secret health or wellness tip you would like to share?
Practice gratitude daily. It shifts your energy, your perspective, and the way you connect with others.
What is your favorite place for a healthy vacation or escape?
A quiet mountain cabin. The fresh air, the silence, and the connection with nature reset my mind and body in a profound way.
What is your favorite self-care routine?
A warm bath, soft music, aromatherapy, and a face mask. It’s my time to unwind, reflect, and reset.
