Located on the south bank of the Douro River in the city of Vila Nova de Gaia, the brand-new, five-star Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia Hotel (Portugal) offers travelers a unique experience that combines the heritage of Portugal’s Tivoli Hotels & Resorts and Kopke, the oldest Port wine house in the world.
Built around the restoration of the centuries-old Kopke wine cellars, Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia is spread across nearly five acres, situated on terraces resembling the Douro Valley vineyards and offering spectacular views of the city of Porto, the Douro River, and Luis I Bridge. The property has three distinct areas named after various types of Port—Vintage, Tawny, and White—which are built around a refurbished Kopke Port wine cellar where dozens of barrels holding more than 528,000 gallons of wine are aging. The cellar will soon open to guests, providing them with an immersive experience that includes distinctive events and unique Port wine tastings. The hotel’s 149 guest rooms and suites welcome guests with a contemporary and industrial design, offering signature Tivoli touches, warm burgundy and earth tones, and soft tactile leather and wool fabrics that provide warmth and texture while honoring Kopke’s wine-making heritage. Historic photographs adorn the walls, telling the story of the Douro Valley, its vineyards, and the harvest, paying homage to the region’s most famous wine, Port.
Michelin-Starred Chef Helms Culinary Program
Helmed by renowned Spanish chef Nacho Manzano of three-Michelin-starred Casa Marcial in Asturais, Northern Spain, Tivoli Kopke’s culinary offerings can be enjoyed in two restaurants—the fine dining 1638 Restaurant & Wine Bar and Boa Vista Terrace by Nacho Manzano, a casual all-day dining concept.
Boasting stellar views over Porto and the Douro River, 1638 Restaurant & Wine Bar by Nacho Manzano presents an 11-course tasting menu celebrating haute cuisine paired with the Douro region’s most exquisite wines, including renowned Kopke Port wines and exceptional Douro DOC still wines from Quinta de São Luiz and Quinta da Boavista. Signature dishes on the debut menu include Oyster with Duck Sauce and Codium Seaweed Smoothie, and Beef Sirloin, Seaweed Pesto and Pickled Salad. The tasting menu is available for dinner only and changes every two months.
Open for lunch and dinner, and overlooking Porto, Boa Vista Terrace by Nacho Manzano is the ideal spot for a casual meal with friends, family and colleagues, offering a menu that draws inspiration from the Atlantic Ocean. Confit cod, mussels and cock rice are some of the menu’s delicacies. From April to October, the Sky Bar Kopke will serve signature Port cocktails alongside spectacular views, showcasing a more relaxed way to enjoy Port wine.
