What does wellness mean to you?
Wellness, to me, is about balance—nurturing my body, mind, and spirit while staying connected to my ancestry and the natural world. It’s a holistic approach to health that goes beyond just physical wellbeing.
What are your favorite things to do to maintain your personal wellbeing?
I love spending time outdoors, whether it’s hiking, walking on the beach, or simply sitting in nature. I also practice mindfulness through meditation and traditional rituals that connect me to my heritage.
Is there a specific fitness activity that you love and why?
Right now, I enjoy IHT, or interval training with oxygen deprivation. This method simulates high-altitude training, helping to build endurance and strength in a short amount of time. As an entrepreneur, I don’t always have the luxury of exercising five days a week, so this efficient routine fits perfectly into my busy schedule.
What is your favorite healthy food, and do you have a favorite way of preparing it?
I have a deep appreciation for acorns, which are a staple in my culture. I love preparing acorn meal in a traditional way, turning it into porridge or using it in baking. It’s nourishing and reminds me of my roots.
What is your favorite healthy beverage, and do you have any insider tips for preparing it?
I enjoy herbal teas, especially those made with local plants. My favorite is a calming blend of chamomile and mint. I recommend steeping them together for a fresh, soothing drink that supports relaxation.
What is your greatest wellness achievement?
Building N8iV Beauty and creating a platform that honors Indigenous traditions and promotes natural skincare has been my greatest achievement. It’s fulfilling to see our products resonate with people and support their wellness journeys.
What person in wellness do you most admire and why?
I admire Indigenous healers and elders who share their wisdom and knowledge about traditional practices. Their dedication to preserving our culture and teaching others about natural healing inspires me every day.
What is the best piece of wellness advice you have ever received and from whom?
One of the best pieces of advice came from my grandmother: “Listen to your body, and trust its wisdom.” It’s a simple yet profound reminder to honor ourselves and our needs.
What do you think is the most exciting wellness innovation you have recently discovered?
I’m excited about the resurgence of interest in traditional plant-based ingredients in skincare. It’s inspiring to see people recognize the value of ancestral knowledge in modern formulations.
What is your idea of balanced healthy happiness?
For me, balanced healthy happiness means feeling connected—to my culture, to nature, and to the people around me. It’s about finding joy in simple moments and nurturing my wellbeing through authentic practices.
What do you think is the most overused word or words in wellness?
I think “wellness” itself can sometimes be overused; it can lose its meaning when it turns into just another marketing buzzword.
Do you have a secret health or wellness tip you would like to share?
Keep things simple and authentic. Use clean ingredients, stay consistent with your practices, and always protect your energy by surrounding yourself with what feels right.
What is your favorite place for a healthy vacation or escape?
I enjoy being in the Pauma Valley, where my reservation resides, because it’s so peaceful, and I feel the energy of my ancestors here. It’s a place that truly grounds me and allows me to connect with my heritage.
Is there a particular wellness company or brand that truly impresses you with their efforts and why?
I admire brands that respect sustainability and cultural authenticity in their practices. They inspire me to keep pushing for ethical and responsible approaches in our own business.
What is your favorite self-care routine?
I enjoy a simple skincare ritual using our N8iV products, taking the time to nourish my skin while reflecting on gratitude. It’s a moment of peace in my busy day.
What is your go-to for de-stressing?
Spending time outdoors, practicing deep breathing, and engaging in creative activities like painting help me de-stress. Nature has a way of grounding me.
What aspect of your wellbeing do you struggle with the most, or would most like to improve?
Like many entrepreneurs, I sometimes struggle with finding balance and making time for rest. I’m always working on prioritizing self-care amid my responsibilities.
What wellness-related books or authors do you recommend, and why?
I highly recommend Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. It beautifully intertwines Indigenous wisdom with scientific knowledge, teaching us the importance of reciprocity and our relationship with nature.
How do you celebrate small victories?
I take a moment to pause and reflect, expressing gratitude for the progress made. I often share these moments with my family and community, as they are part of my journey.
What brings you joy?
Joy comes from honoring my culture, engaging with nature, and creating products that uplift our narratives. It’s fulfilling to see our work resonate with others and contribute to a broader conversation about wellness.
