The family-owned Leitmotiv group, owners of Cœur de Megève in the French Alps and the recently opened La Fantaisie in Paris, has officially opened the doors of its third hotel, Casa Monti in Rome, its first Italian property. Opened in June, the hotel symbolizes a celebration of creativity, embracing the art of la dolce vita in the Italian capital. Located in Monti, the city’s historic creative district, the property embraces the surrounding city, exuding a charismatic, Roman personality. Over the years, the neighborhood has become a haven for up-and-coming artisans. Today, it remains one of the city’s few hidden gems—feeling far away from the noisy and overly touristy areas of the city, yet close to all the key sights in Rome.

The hotel’s 26 rooms and 10 suites are steeped in artistic influence, emulating the craftmanship of the Monti district. Interior designer Laura Gonzales was inspired by the Italian notion of sprezzatura—the feeling of relaxed ease and effortless elegance. She combined elaborate crafted materials and bespoke prints to evoke an enchanting, carefree Italian spirit. Every detail has been meticulously chosen to highlight the creativity of the district and immerse visitors into an artist’s life through its display of impressive antiques, Italian craftsmanship, and commissioned artworks. Imbued with Gonzalez’s trademark colorful style, the interiors feel personal and carefully composed, yet never contrived.

The property’s one of-a-kind spa, situated on the fifth floor, is meant to evoke the spirit of the Roman baths. Bathed in the golden light that is characteristic of Rome, the city’s first and only Susanne Kaufmann Spa offers an expansive panorama of the capital from its terrace and features a cozy Jacuzzi to unwind in after a long day of walking the city’s bustling streets. The spa relies on locally sourced botanical ingredients and traditional massage techniques.

This grand, artistic hotel features multiple spaces to accommodate the ebb and flow of both locals and tourists alike. The property’s Casa Monti Ristorante is built against the historic façade and opens onto a terrace before extending indoors. It sits alongside a lively patio with a fountain and a few tables where guests can sample authentic Roman recipes, curated in sync with the venerable Monti farmers market. Further back, Casa Monti Bar welcomes guests into a creative space filled with a neutral blend of browns and creams, complemented by a travertine tile floor in an embellished Italian grid pattern. The Casa Monti Rooftop is available to sip cocktails beneath the sun’s golden glow. The chic rooftop bar specializes in delectable cocktails and is aptly decorated in shades of sky blue, providing a unique vantage point with stunning views of the surrounding parks and quintessential pine trees in the city.
