To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, The Gainsborough Bath Spa in the UK will be hosting a series of exclusive events and experiences to honor the iconic writer in partnership with Strictly Jane Austen, a division of Bath-based travel specialists ECT Travel.

In spring and fall 2025, the elegant five-star hotel in Georgian Bath, a 90-minute train ride from London, will immerse guests in the spirit of Jane Austen as they reflect on her life and works in the surroundings where she shaped some of her most important writings.

The celebratory programs will take place between April 7-12 and October 13-18, 2025, and will be organized by Strictly Jane Austen Tours, known for its inspiring Regency adventures and close ties with local experts.

The programs will offer guided tours to popular Bath attractions, including the No.1 Royal Crescent Museum, which celebrates Bath’s 18th-century history. Other highlights will include a visit to the village of Lacock, known for its appearance in films and TV shows like Pride & Prejudice. Visitors will also enjoy day trips to Austen’s House in Hampshire; a cottage turned into a museum that marks the birthplace of her beloved novels, and Chawton House. Once the home of Jane Austen’s brother, Chawton is referred to as the “Great House” in her novels and is now home to a unique collection of women’s writings.

Literature enthusiasts are also invited to join experts for insightful talks covering topics such as “Beauty and Cosmetics in the Time of Jane Austen” and “Gaming & Gambling and the Games Austen’s Characters Play.” Bestselling writer Gill Hornby will also speak about her celebrated novel Godmersham Park, alongside other academics, historians, and authors sharing insights into Austen’s genius.

The talks and excursions will be complemented by experiences that capture the celebratory spirit of the Georgian era, including a Regency dance workshop with traditional piped music, an embroidery class, an extravagant celebratory dinner at The Gainsborough Bath Spa, and a Jane Austen-themed Afternoon Tea to mark the 250th anniversary in the hotel’s Canvas Room.

For those looking for a fully immersive experience, Strictly Jane Austen can also arrange for guests to enjoy the offerings in full Regency costume, which will be delivered to the hotel at the start of the program. Guests who have their own costumes are encouraged to bring them.

Combining classic architecture and historical elegance, The Gainsborough Bath Spa is the perfect setting for this celebration of Jane Austen. Located just moments away from key sites in Austen’s life and times, it also boasts luxurious accommodation, exceptional hospitality, and an award-winning Spa Village with exclusive access to Bath’s naturally warm, mineral-rich waters.

The Celebrating Jane Austen 2025 programs will run from April 7-12 and October 13-18, 2025, and are available to book now. Prices start at $2,840 per person. To book, visit strictlyjaneausten.com/celebrating-jane-austen-2025.
