Since 1962, Esalen Institute, the acclaimed not-for-profit holistic educational retreat center, has developed a reputation as a pioneer in the human potential movement, a community of wellness thought leaders, and a living classroom for the healing arts, ranging from massage to meditation. In fact, over the past 50 years, Esalen has taught more than 50,000 people to meditate. In response to the skyrocketing demand for wellness resources since the 2020 pandemic, Esalen has announced the new online teacher training course in meditation

The 200-hour online interactive training and certification course, titled Radiance Sutras Meditation Teacher Training, runs January 29 to June 19. It is open to anyone and is taught by esteemed faculty members Lorin Roche, Ph.D., and Camille Maurine. The course is online and consists of live Zoom classes, practice sessions with other students in small groups, live office hours on Zoom, prerecorded audio meditations, and three textbooks: Meditation Made Easy and The Radiance Sutras by Roche and Meditation Secrets for Women by Maurine. After completing the course, students will receive certification through the Radiance Sutras School of Meditation and also, if desired, with Yoga Alliance, as a 200-hour authorized meditation teacher.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Customize meditation to suit an individual or group.
  • Adapt their meditation practice to meet particular life circumstances.
  • Navigate intense emotions, sensations, and other challenges.
  • Cooperate with internal, instinctive wisdom.
  • Find deeper balance, healing, and renewal.
  • Offer the gift of meditation to others.
  • Guide students into meditative states, whether it is a short one-minute rest or a full 20-minute session.
  • Receive personalized attention from instructors and immediate answers from private discussion groups.

“A key part of Esalen’s mission is to provide pioneering initiatives that offer personal, spiritual, and social transformation,” says Douglas Drummond, Esalen’s director of healing arts and somatics. Our legacy behooves us to take advantage of changing technology to put healing modalities in the palm of the hand of curious, compassionate wellness seekers and practitioners who are interested in ways to learn a new practice or deepen their current practice in order to help their communities at this unprecedented time. If not now, when?”
