The Steward, an all-suite hotel in Santa Barbara, CA, has revealed the final phase of its property-wide transformation with the completion of its new state-of-the-art fitness barn, repurposed from a historic barn on the property’s grounds.
Drawing inspiration from pioneering horticulturist Joseph Sexton, who originally purchased the land in the late 1860s, The Steward’s fitness barn further exemplifies the property’s commitment to sustainability and becoming a natural part of its surroundings. Guests will enjoy inspired programming at the fully transformed property including:
- Repurposed Fitness Barn: Tucked away among the property’s foliage, the historic barn hosts a nature-inspired modern fitness area, complete with ample equipment such as Peloton bikes, elliptical machines, treadmills, strength equipment, an interactive mirror, and more.
- Yoga Lawn: Located adjacent to the fitness barn, the Yoga Lawn welcomes guests to grab a smart fitness bag (complete with a smart yoga mat and freehand weights) to be utilized on their own accord. Additionally, guests will be able to enjoy complimentary yoga classes to find open-air Zen later this season.
- Locally Sourced Dining: The hotel’s signature restaurant, Terra, meaning “of the earth,” incorporates locally sourced ingredients that showcase and highlight the Central Coast’s agriculture through its connections with local farms and purveyors. Guests can indulge in produce-driven cuisine including zero-waste dishes (think: delicious hibiscus tacos and margaritas, both utilizing the same hibiscus flower).
- Horticulture Hour: Guests are invited to participate in weekly inspired seminars, deemed Horticulture Hour, led by the property’s horticulture team in the garden. There, they can enjoy plant-based appetizers specially curated by chef Augusto Caudillo and learn about a range of topics—from how to grow your own avocados to how to be a steward.
- Unique Partnerships: With The Steward’s strong community ties, guests will indulge in local brands, such as FRINJ Coffee Roasters, offering products in-room for fresh pour overs as well as the option to explore exclusive tours of the FRINJ farm for an interactive experience; and inventive sips at Terra utilizing Cutler’s Artisan Spirits.
