Embarking on a career in medicine, Lisa Johnson, president of sales and marketing for Epicutis Skincare, spent 15 years at a respected medical practice specializing in vascular surgery and aesthetics in Boise, ID. There, she integrated skincare products with laser treatments and other cosmetic procedures, giving her deep insight into the synergy between medical aesthetics and skincare. Her experience uniquely positions her to accelerate the convergence of aesthetics and next-generation skincare—an approach at the core of the Epicutis line. Johnson’s passion for clean formulations and science-backed skincare reflects her commitment to helping people look their best while maintaining optimal skin health. Here, she shares some of the ways she embraces wellness in her own life.

What does wellness mean to you?

Wellness is about longevity and reducing inflammation at all costs. That’s exactly how we approach skincare at Epicutis. We don’t believe in quick fixes—we focus on skin health at a cellular level to deliver long-term benefits, not just surface-level results. We also don’t talk about “anti-aging,” because when you reduce inflammation, looking younger becomes a natural side effect.

What are your favorite things to do to maintain your personal wellbeing?

Movement, mindful skincare, and time outdoors. My skincare routine isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s part of my overall wellbeing. Everything that goes on your body eventually gets in, so I’m very intentional about what touches my skin.

Is there a specific fitness activity that you love and why?

Strength training and CrossFit—they build resilience, both physically and mentally. I also love mountain biking to clear my head, and my latest addiction is pickleball.

What is your favorite healthy food, and do you have a favorite way of preparing it?

Avocados—I love them with lemon juice, sea salt, and a spoon. The best results come from simple, high-quality ingredients without unnecessary additives.

What is your favorite healthy beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), and do you have any insider tips for preparing it?

Matcha—it’s packed with antioxidants that support skin health. The secret is using ceremonial-grade matcha and whisking it properly for a smooth, creamy finish.

What is your greatest wellness achievement?

Building Epicutis into a brand that truly prioritizes skin health. We’ve created a line free of fillers and irritants—products that work with the skin, not against it. Seeing how our science-backed formulations are transforming people’s skin (and confidence) is incredibly fulfilling.

What person in wellness do you most admire and why?

Max Stock, the visionary behind Epicutis. He’s my go-to for all things health and wellness.

What is the best piece of wellness advice you’ve ever received, and from whom?

“Less is more.” That applies to skincare and life. One of my mentors in clinical practice always emphasized quality over quantity, and it’s a principle I live by.

What is your idea of balanced, healthy happiness?

Living with intention. Whether it’s nutrition, movement, or skincare, it’s about making thoughtful, long-term choices instead of chasing trends.

What do you think is the most overused word or phrase in wellness?

“Anti-aging.” At Epicutis, we don’t believe in fighting aging—we believe in supporting healthy skin at every stage of life.

Do you have a secret health or wellness tip you’d like to share?

Consistency beats perfection. Whether it’s exercise, nutrition, or skincare, sticking to a routine of science-backed choices will always outperform chasing the next big thing.

What is your favorite place for a healthy vacation or escape?

Anywhere surrounded by nature. I love spots where I can truly reset, especially after a busy travel schedule. Visiting our partner spas like Camelback Inn or a luxurious Four Seasons location is the perfect way to recharge.

What is your favorite self-care routine?

My nighttime skincare ritual with Epicutis. I always use our Oil Cleanser, Lipid Serum, and Hyvia Crème before bed—it’s like wrapping my skin in a protective cocoon. When I’m traveling, I use our Lipid Recovery Mask post-flight to rehydrate and reduce irritation. Oh—and a bath. Always.

What’s your go-to for de-stressing?

Getting outside—whether it’s a walk or a heart-pounding mountain bike ride, nature is my reset button. I also prioritize working out, even while traveling. It’s essential for my mental clarity and overall wellbeing.

What aspect of your wellness would you most like to improve?

Getting enough sleep, especially when I’m jet lagged. It’s a constant challenge with my travel schedule.

What wellness-related books or authors do you recommend, and why?

Atomic Habits—a brilliant reminder that small, consistent changes lead to big results over time.

How do you celebrate small victories?

By acknowledging them! Whether it’s a business milestone or incredible feedback, I always pause to appreciate the moment.

What brings you joy?

Helping people feel confident in their skin. Whether it’s through mentoring or simply sharing knowledge, knowing I’m making a difference is what drives me. And honestly? My French bulldog, Lola.
