Research shows that relationships help people live longer and healthier lives. They help us cope better with stress, and they play a significant role in how we navigate our careers, run our businesses, and more. Tackling the topic of healthy relationships with others and ourselves, Zoe Shaw, Psy.D., a life coach and relationship therapist, will speak at Well Defined’s Women in Leadership Summit on March 1, 2022, in Tustin, CA.
In a session titled, Social Intelligence and the Wellness Entrepreneur: Why Your Success Depends on Your Relationships, Shaw will break down the four key relationships that contribute to your success as an entrepreneur and the 11 dysfunctional relationship behaviors that can cost you in business. She will share tips and insights on how to up your social intelligence skills for your business success. “In business, people say that time is our most valuable asset,” says Shaw. “Actually, relationships are our most valuable resource, and this is magnified for the wellness entrepreneur.”
Shaw was a teen mother turned elite athlete. A passionate practitioner in the field of clinical psychology, she is licensed as a psychotherapist and divides her time between her family life, clinical practice, virtual life and relationship coaching, speaking, writing, and hosting her podcast, “Stronger in the Difficult Places.” She is also the author of A Year of Self-Care: Daily Practices and Inspiration for Caring for Yourself.
Shaw holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University, a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from Phillips Graduate Institute, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UCLA, where she also competed as a sprinter and hurdler.
She began her private practice in California in 1999. After 15 years in traditional psychotherapy practice, she jumped off the couch and now helps women using a different modality with a mix of virtual therapy, coaching services, her book, and programs.
Over the years, her work has expanded with her main areas of study and treatment surrounding women’s issues, specifically superwoman syndrome, development of a sense of self in a post-feminist era, boundary development in dysfunctional relationships, and strength development in women. These issues are close to her heart as she is a busy wife and mother of five, including one with special needs. She also homeschools her youngest child in addition to her work life.
Believing as she does in a holistic approach to life, Shaw balances her life with athleticism, competing on the USA Master’s track and field team as a sprinter.
