What does wellness mean to you?
Wellness to me means thriving. Unlike much of the industry, to me wellness is not about constantly trying to be better or healthier. Rather, it’s about finding your own personal best and then expanding on that by looking for how to be more relaxed and efficient within that space. Wellness, for me, is also a responsibility. I know a lot about it, so I do my best to help others know more. The industry overall isn’t accessible for people who aren’t wealthy, so I focus on public education of inexpensive ways we can all feel better.
Is there a specific fitness activity that you love and why?
Swimming is my all-time favorite activity, but thanks to the pandemic I got into working out in general. I’ve actually gained over 20 pounds of muscle since spring 2020.
What is your greatest wellness achievement?
That’s a tough one! I’d say publishing my wellness manual, speaking at large wellness conventions, and talking wellness on national television are all #1.
What do you think is the most exciting wellness innovation you have recently discovered?
I have two: Algenist vegan collagen skincare products were my biggest game changer of the past year as far as products go. And as far as innovation that made a different for me, I got under-eye PRP and now, after having under-eye circles since childhood, I don’t. (The fact that it’s your own plasma being placed elsewhere in your body counts as wellness, I think?!)
What is your idea of balanced healthy happiness?
Balance IS health happiness! I used to be so rigid about my habits, from restrictive eating to how I educated others about wellness. I feel better than ever before by eating all food groups, and by educating others to eat, and heal from illness, intuitively.
Do you have a secret health or wellness tip you would like to share?
We all need to remind ourselves more often of how far we’ve come and how well we’re doing. We tend to focus only on what we need to accomplish next, or how we should be doing better. Congratulating ourselves is vital to happiness.
Is there a particular wellness company or brand that truly impresses you with their efforts and why?
OffField, which is a CBD/CBG electrolyte mix company, has the most gender-neutral packaging I’ve ever seen. Also, their product makes me feel amazing. I also love Elements drinks. Their focus and calm beverages are daily staples for me, and I find them more effective than any competitors.
What is your favorite self-care routine?
The biggest perk of writing about beauty and wellness is all the products I get to test, so my ever-changing skincare routine is definitely my favorite.
What is your go-to for de-stressing?
Deep breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth. It’s the simplest thing you can do, yet it works wonders.
What aspect of your wellbeing do you struggle with the most, or would most like to improve?
I struggle with letting everything be ok as is and not focusing on improving, honestly. It’s an endless quest if you’re on it, so I try to instead be happy with wherever I am at, at whatever I’m doing to stay sane and happy in this wild world.
